LEVEL I FIELDWORK

UPMC Mercy Hospital - December 16-20, 2019

  • Observed COTA on stroke rehabilitation unit

  • Assisted with daily ADL tasks, transfers, and intervention activities

  • Participated in daily documentation and goal writing for patients

St. Anthony's Life Skills Apartment - September 2019-May 2020

  • Researched, planned, and delivered intervention activities for young adult students with IDD revolving around vocational skills and progression toward independence

  • Assisted students in trips to local library, grocery store, restaurants, and businesses

  • Participated in alternate community-engaged learning activities remotely for the remainder of the semester, due to COVID-19

Butler Memorial Hospital - June 29-September 18, 2020

Butler Memorial Hospital is â€‹a general acute care hospital located in Butler, Pennsylvania.

  • Setting: Acute Care

  • Diagnoses: CVA, respiratory diseases, TBI, surgical needs, CNS disorders, other injuries

  • Interdisciplinary Team: SLP, physicians, nurses, PT, rehabilitation providers, dieticians, social workers, psychiatrists

  • Typical Interventions: ROM, MMT, ADLs, functional mobility, transfers, restoring prior function, safety training, patient education, adaptive equipment/devices, discharge recommendations

LEVEL V FIELDWORK

OSPTA Hand Therapy Clinic (Shaler, Aliquippa, and Mount Lebanon locations) - September 28-January 1, 2021

OSPTA is an outpatient physical therapy and hand therapy clinic located in many sites throughout Pittsburgh.

  • Setting: Outpatient

  • Diagnoses: Lateral epicondylitis, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, lacerations, amputations, nerve disorders, surgical repairs, fractures

  • Interdisciplinary Team: Surgeons, COTA

  • Typical Interventions: ADLs, IADLs, sensory integration, adaptive equipment/devices, pain management, range of motion, muscle strengthening, self care

DOCTORAL CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE

True T PGH - June 8 - September 10, 2021

True T PGH is an LGBTQIA+ outreach organization located in Bloomfield, a neighborhood of Pittsburgh. True T features an emergency housing program known as Option-U, which temporarily houses nonbinary and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness. I created a program called Operation Occupation to bring an occupation-based structure to the programming already set in place at Option-U. The goal of this program was to help the residents achieve their independent living goals through a series of assessments and intervention sessions that paralleled the OT Process.

Setting: Community Practice

Diagnoses: Various mental health disorders, trauma

Interdisciplinary Team: Co-Executive Directors, Option-U Program Coordinator, Community Event Coordinator, Healthcare Advocate, Resident Assistant

Typical Interventions: Financial management, self care, transportation management, community mobility, communication management, physical activity, interview preparation, coping mechanisms
